Khichan, a nearby village not well known in the traditional tourism circuit but very popular among the 30000 Demoiselle Cranes who for the last 200 years have been migrating here from Mongolia between September and March. They can be spotted everywhere around the water bodies and Salt pans but the best sight is in the morning inside a village courtyard where they fly to eat grains which are gifted for them by the local villagers. Even though desert is not the natural choice of migration for Demoiselle cranes for winters, it is the unique story of human-animal relationship in this region responsible for this phenomenon.
